I was born and raised in Vienna, Austria, so German has always been my first language. However, my first encounter with English (as the language of global communication) and other cultures was at a 4-week international summer camp in Japan at the age of 11. I soon realised that my English had a lot of room for improvement, which really sparked my interest in not just learning languages, but immersing myself in other cultures. Having lived in Costa Rica as an exchange student, spent various summers in the US with host families and a university year abroad in Siberia, it seems fair to say that my life is a reflection of my curiosity of different cultures.
It may also not come as a surprise that the UK has been my home since 2009. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Russian, Spanish and Film Studies (2.1) from the University of Exeter and a Master’s Degree in Translations Studies with Intercultural Communications (Distinction) from the University of Surrey. After moving around the south of England, I am settled in Woking, Surrey – kind of –, where I (used to) enjoy lovely walks along a canal or relaxing with my cats after work. However, I always strive to improve myself professional, so in September 2022 I decided to return to Austria temporarily to do a BSc in Pharmacy. Hence, I am now between the UK and Austria, spending a significant amount in each country.
